The artist’s current work is an exploration of acrylic and mixed media on wood. During the past several years her work has been occupied with developing a unique textured vocabulary. The elements of this vocabulary are erosion techniques, metals and recycled materials.

She begins each painting by randomly applying her textures, then continues the process of layering with different types of acrylic paint. Through this marriage of color and texture, the image is allowed to emerge. As an intuitive painter, she infuses each piece with vivid color and emotion to frame her mysterious figures

Carll’s main interest is the study of humanity. Influenced by music and literature, she also finds inspiration and content through her research and observation of the past. Some of her figures are derived from ancient, classical or renaissance sculpture. She sees her art as a means to respond on a personal level, to current events or an interest in a particular subject matter.

Carll enjoys the process of developing the essence of the figure within an environment of “structure,” using the random textures to enhance the image. Her dynamic pieces engage the viewer in an emotional dialogue with the visual story.
